Health Education/Post-operative Precautions for Nipple and Areola Surgery
[Post-operative coaching for nipple and areola surgery]
- Slight bleeding is normal in the early postoperative period; regular dressing changes are necessary to keep the wound dry. If abnormal bleeding or infection occurs, a return to the hospital for examination is recommended.
- It is recommended to wear loose-fitting underwear to avoid pressure and friction on the wound.
- Smoking is prohibited to prevent poor wound healing and skin necrosis.
- Return for a follow-up appointment one week later to have the stitches removed. Avoid strenuous exercise and sleeping on your stomach for two weeks.
- There may be temporary local numbness at the wound site. After the stitches are removed, the doctor will assess whether massage can help improve the condition.

▍Post-nipple and areola surgery dressing and cleaning steps:
1) Cleaning: Use a cotton swab dipped in saline solution to clean the nipple (areola) suture area.
2) Apply ointment: Use a cotton swab to apply a thin layer of ointment, not too thick, to the nipple (areola) suture area.
3) Bandaging after applying medication: Take two layers of gauze with pre-cut holes, and then cover the top layer with an uncut gauze. Place both layers over the nipple, and finally peel off the breathable tape and apply it. Do not apply it too tightly. (Change the dressing after showering daily. If you are sensitive to the breathable tape, you can remove it and keep the wound dry.)
▍Instructions for medications included in the postoperative care kit:
The nursing kit contains three medications: an anti-inflammatory drug, a painkiller, and a stomach medicine. Please take them according to the instructions on the medication card, including the dosage, timing, and administration.
Please take all the anti-inflammatory medication as prescribed.
Painkillers are not necessary if there is no pain.
Stomach medicine can be taken in conjunction with anti-inflammatory drugs.
