Double chin

The formation of a double chin is mostly due to fat accumulation, a less defined chin contour, and sagging of the mid-to-lower face with age. When subcutaneous fat is too thick or unevenly distributed, it tends to accumulate at the junction of the chin and neck. In addition, collagen loss and gravity can gradually blur the jawline and cause the skin to sag, obscuring the original contour. Prolonged periods of looking down or poor posture can also exacerbate the visual appearance of a double chin. Common concerns include an indistinct profile, a round and puffy face, and an overall tired or aged appearance. Even with a normal weight, a noticeable double chin can appear due to sagging skin.
