Dr. Yan-Bo Wang discusses the rejuvenating effects of facial fat grafting for filling facial depressions caused by aging.
Facial aging is a complex, gradual process, and the cumulative result of changes in multiple parts of the face. It is not a symptom of a single part. In other words, when a person begins to look haggard and old, causing changes in their appearance, it is due to the interaction of multiple aging symptoms. The causes include the relaxation of skin tissue, the atrophy of soft tissue, and bone resorption, all of which have varying degrees of influence.
Arsty Clinic's expertise in one-stop facial rejuvenation surgery aims to improve these complex facial aging symptoms. By combining facelift surgery with facial fat grafting, it achieves an overall plumping effect. However, it is essential to first understand the anatomical changes related to aging in order to design an effective treatment plan from all aspects to achieve noticeable rejuvenation after the procedure.
▍Improvement of Mid-Face Aging
When discussing facial rejuvenation surgery, I will first give a brief introduction to the mid-face area, which ages the fastest and is of most concern to many:
Young people's mid-faces appear plump and full, with indistinct lines; however, as they age, muscle tissue gradually loosens, the malar fat pads shift, and some facial bones atrophy and are absorbed, causing eye bags to sag and become prominent, and the once plump apple cheeks to droop. Therefore, as people age, it is easy to notice in the mirror that their faces have become loose and flat, giving them a haggard appearance.

The midface, where signs of aging begin to appear, is divided into three sections—

As shown in the image above, the blue area represents the eye bags, the green area represents the cheekbone, and the yellow area represents the nasolabial fold (maxilla). The depressions in between are:
1.palpebro-malar groove.
2. Nasojugal groove.
3. Mid-cheek groove.
Compared to the lower orbital bone, which is less prone to absorption and loss, the upper jawbone suffers more severe atrophy with age, affecting the face and causing subsequent volume loss (lack of cheekbones) and various wrinkles and depressions, among other signs of aging.
Facial aging symptoms such as hollowing and loss of volume can be addressed by...Autologous fat grafting to fillSurgery can be used to correct this, restoring some of the fullness and plumpness through volume refill, making the boundaries less noticeable.
Common fat grafting areas
Common areas for fat grafting include the forehead, temples, cheekbones, sides of the face, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, nose, and chin. Generally, facial fat grafting is performed conservatively, with a second procedure typically performed three months after the initial procedure.
Modern autologous fat grafting surgery has become much more advanced. Thanks to the improvements made by Dr. Sydney Coleman and Dr. Lin Caimin from Taiwan, [the following techniques have been proposed].Minimal autologous fat grafting (MAFT)The concept involves precisely delivering fat microparticles and layering them for better transplant results.

In facial rejuvenation surgery, facial liposuction and fat grafting are common auxiliary procedures aimed at reshaping the face. Generally, facial fat grafting tends to be conservative, with a second procedure typically performed three months after the initial procedure.
