GORETEX - Introduction to Forehead Augmentation Implant Material Selection

With advancements in medical technology, there are now various materials available for forehead augmentation. However, the choice of material has a profound impact on the surgical outcome and potential complications. Below are some materials we frequently recommend to our clients.This section introduces the Gore-tex material.

Surgical GORE-TEX Material Properties and Advantages

The 100% ePTFE material undergoes a compression process, resulting in excellent rigidity and resistance to deformation.

The Gore-tex material imported by Taiwan is divided into two main categories: sheet-like and three-dimensional molded.

Gore-tex can be imagined as a very dense sponge structure, filled with tiny pores (20-40 μm), into which blood vessels and tissue cells can grow. It has high biocompatibility and stability, and is not prone to capsule or contraction problems.

During surgery, the procedure can be sculpted to the desired shape. Although it connects with existing tissue, removing Gore-Tex in a second surgery is not difficult, and it doesn't leave material residue like Camera. The downsides are that the volume will shrink slightly after surgery, and the price is higher. Surgiform, which Taiwan has recently imported from the US, is a 3D molding procedure with a stronger structure, allowing for shape design tailored to different facial areas.

So how should I choose?

Gore-tex

Gore-tex is safe and stable, does not shift, and is easily replaceable in a second surgery. It can be customized to fit different head shapes. While implants sometimes have noticeable edges, current techniques for handling Gore-tex edges, combined with endoscopic assistance, prevent this issue. In practice, it's common to discover localized defects in the forehead appearance only after implantation; Gore-tex can be used for localized adjustments in such cases. For large-area implantations in the forehead and temples, Gore-tex can be seamlessly integrated using edge-handling techniques, resulting in a smooth, seamless appearance.

Second generation Carmela

The surface Gore-Tex material, with silicone inside, is currently available in three different sizes in Taiwan for forehead implantation. Endoscopic implantation is safe and stable. It provides a better appearance for a protruding forehead than sheet-like Gore-Tex, but if the forehead is wider (more common in men), additional Gore-Tex may be needed to prevent asymmetry or unevenness. If both the forehead and temples require filling, additional Gore-Tex material is also necessary.

Youthful forehead enhancement effect

In addition to improving facial contours, forehead augmentation (and temple augmentation if necessary) can indeed have a "youthful" effect. With the aid of an endoscope and the use of biocompatible materials, a long-term and stable effect can be achieved.
